'Red' Hero Assets

Hero assets for the 'Red' character for my personal project.

Note: A lot of these are pre-alpha, so things like topology flow and uv layouts were not optimized in this iteration.

Everything in here was created by me in Blender and/or Marvelous Designer. Rendered in Substance Painter.

I tried to go for a realism that got close to the line, but I plan to use some filters in UE4 to give a more stylized look so photorealism was not a priority, but wanted details where they would matter, especially where brighter colors were concerned.

More breakdown:

Red's former job was as a firefighter, whose family also has a lineage so I wanted to root his primary outfit in that, having a combination of slightly and heavily used gear. Used a lot of reference for real 'turnout gear as it's called and honed in on a look I was satisfied with. This character is more of a tank in terms of his combat ability, so I wanted his clothes to be something heavy duty and shows he can take and give a lot.

Future notes: On my next pass, I'll be looking to expand the detail further, and give some more time to the shirt and shoulder pads to make it more interesting.

I'll also be redoing the pants as artifacts were starting to break the model, most likely due to the topology being so weird (they are exported mostly right from MD, with some clean up). But given you're not usually that close to the character's pants, and the game takes place at night, some of this could be hidden. The worst is by the ankles where I tried to force two modeled bands around them. I will likely make this a part of the normal/height maps next time around.

Gloves I'm pretty satisfied with. made the logos myself in Photoshop and think they came out pretty well. Cloned the hands as a base and rebuilt them from there.

Boots are a little low poly but normally you won't be getting up close and personal with them like the pictures are.

Googles are referenced of off some existing saftey goggles. Getting the shape right was a bit tough for me but I think they do the job and come out pretty well. The lenses are placeholder for now.
